A Los Angeles woman was charged today with attempted murder in Ventura County. Authorities say she tried to strangle a 63-year-old man early Monday morning at the Premier Inns on W. Hillcrest Drive in Newbury Park.

Celebration Ferguson, 26, was arrested July 23, jail records indicate. The day before, police responded to a 2:30 a.m. call of possible domestic violence, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

An uninvolved party told authorities there had been an altercation between a man and Ferguson, who was heard yelling that she was going to kill him, police said. The man, who has not been identified, lives in Oxnard.

When deputies arrived at the motel, they found the two still fighting, the statement said.

The relationship between the man and Ferguson is unclear.

Ferguson was in court today where she was assigned a public defender. She’s being held in the Todd Road Jail with bail set at $500,000.

If convicted, she faces a maximum of life in prison. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Thurs., Aug. 29, when she is due to be arraigned.
