Say no to the recall attempts

When they cannot win by election, gerrymander, theft, fraud, lawsuit, audit or insurrection, they attempt to recall.

Do not sign the petition to recall Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks. Vote no on recalling Gov. Newsom.

Parks and her colleagues on the Ventura County Board of Supervisors have done a good job trying to follow public health advice to fight the spread of COVID-19 while balancing the needs and rights of citizens and businesses. The case rate and death tolls would be much higher without most of us adhering to these mandates.

An anti-mask advocate and admitted Trump supporter led the group that initiated a petition to recall Supervisor Parks over infection control measures, including masking, along with business, school and church closures.

She gave “colorful” comments at supervisors’ meetings protesting the mask mandate. Another supporter is a church in the Conejo Valley with ties to wealthy out-of-state conservatives. The church is notorious for pushing the limits of the First Amendment, including holding indoor worship during the shutdown. They recently circulated the recall petition just outside the sanctuary door.

Recall leaders preach debunked conspiracy notions about COVID-19, including that it is a hoax. They contend that measures to help stop the spread of the virus are useless and unconstitutional. They are organized, persistent, intimidating and loud.

The recalls are funded by out-of-state donors, the Republican National Committee, wealthy developers and venture capitalists, at least one wealthy GOP gubernatorial hopeful and Trump-supporting politicians like Mike Huckabee.

According to Mark Lunn, a special election to replace Parks will cost at least $450,000. The attempted recall of Newsom is estimated to cost taxpayers at least $400 million.

These efforts distract our duly elected officials from trying to help Californians recover from the worst pandemic in a century. We should not be misled.
