NANCY NEEDHAM/Acorn Newspapers FAMILY SAYS LAST GOODBYE—The Pruett family bids farewell to Thousand Oaks as Ruth Pruett, 92, moves from her home of 62 years to live in Oregon with her daughter. The family moved to this area when it was unincorporated back in 1946. Most streets back then weren't paved, lions roared a few blocks away in Jungleland and monkeys that had escaped swung in the treetops. The Pruetts left a life of sharecropping in Missouri and found some Hollywood glamour here, mixed with a simple life in a safe place to raise a family. They watched as their community grew.
