Heart disease blamed for hiker’s death

Clyde “Dick” Miller, 65, died doing what he loved.

An avid hiker, Miller, whose body was found last month in Triunfo Creek Park, died of natural causes related to heart disease while walking on the Pentachaeta Trail, officials said this week.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office identified Miller’s body about a week after it was recovered June 23 from a ravine by a dry creek bed.

“He had some health conditions—heart disease, hypertension,” a spokesperson for the coroner’s office said. “It was natural causes.”

Miller was reported missing June 22 after he failed to show up for work at Guitar Center corporate headquarters in Westlake Village, where he was employed as a proprietary product manager for instruments. He hiked nearly every weekend, friends said.

A two-day search-and-rescue mission led by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office turned into a recovery operation once Miller’s body was found.
