In affiliation with Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, CareNow Urgent Care opened its doors at 3967 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. on May 30.

The clinic, under the direction of Dr. Alireza Raboubi, offers patients a place to go when their pain or illness isn’t life-threatening but is serious enough to make them seek a doctor right away.

“What can you do when you get sick on the weekend when most doctor offices are closed?” asked Joel Lane, marketing executive at HCA, which owns and operates both the clinic and Los Robles. “Urgent care fills the gap between your regular doctor and the emergency room.”

In addition to a triage room and exam rooms, CareNow Urgent Care is equipped with an X-ray machine and its own lab.

Because it is affiliated with Los Robles, patient information can be easily transferred should a person require further care at the hospital, said Raboubi, a family medicine practitioner.

“We didn’t have anything connected to a hospital in this area, so patients get lost,” the doctor said. “They don’t know where to go for care after their urgent care.”

The clinic and hospital have procedures in place to directly admit an urgent care patient who needs to be seen at Los Robles, bypassing ER waits— and costs—Raboubi said.

At last week’s grand opening, staff made it clear that patients with life-threatening emergencies should still go to an ER. The clinic treats problems such as cold and fl u symptoms, ear infections, minor injuries and stitches.

CareNow Urgent Care also serves patients seeking preemployment screenings, commercial driver medical exams, school and sports physicals, pregnancy tests, flu shots and EKGs, and cholesterol and blood pressure screening.

While the clinic, the fourth in the state for HCA, provides walk-in service, it also offers online preregistration, where patients will receive a call letting them know when a doctor will be available to see them.

The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. the rest of the week.

The phone number is (805) 309-0880.
