Walk raises mental health awareness
Event is May 6 at Ventura Promenade
The 13th annual NAMI Ventura County Walk benefiting the National Alliance on Mental Illness will take place Sat., May 6 at the Ventura Promenade.
Check-in and registration will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K walk at 10:30 a.m. The walk will occur rain or shine.
A program from 10 to 10:30 a.m. will feature speakers from the Ventura County community.
The family event will have activities for children and opportunities to socialize.
The walk is an opportunity to raise awareness about the facts of mental illness, to erase the stigma associated with mental illness and to raise funds for NAMI Ventura County programs and services.
NAMI provides classes for family members and providers of people with mental illness. The group also gives school presentations, holds support groups for family members and provides outreach to those who visit people in local inpatient psychiatric units.
NAMI Ventura County also has a Peer to Peer class and a Connections support group for those in recovery.
