ACORN FILE PHOTO The Reagan Library will host its third annual Battle of the Badges American Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon., Jan. 23 at the library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley.

Walk-ins are welcome; however, donors are encouraged to make appointments to avoid excessive wait times.

The Battle of the Badges blood drives began in 2007 in Southern California as an opportunity for badge-carrying personnel to help hospital patients in need through a friendly competition.

The program has become one of the nation’s largest law enforcement blood drives.

This year, state, county and federal agencies will see which one can rally the most blood donors.

While this initiative is geared toward the law enforcement community, the general public is encouraged to participate.

Anyone who comes to donate blood at this event will receive a coupon for one free admission to the Reagan Library.

To schedule an appointment, visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code BADGESOCAL, email Jenny Mandel at jennymandel@me.com or call (805) 577-4028.
