Adventist Academy senior named Carson Scholar

Jasmine is the only student in Ventura County this year to be named a Carson Scholar. Jasmine is the only student in Ventura County this year to be named a Carson Scholar. Newbury Park Adventist Academy senior Jasmine Westerdahl has been named a 2015 Carson Scholar by the Carson Scholars Fund, a scholarship organization that was co-founded by retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson and his wife, Candy.

The Carson Scholars Fund recognizes young people of all backgrounds for academic and humanitarian accomplishments.

Jasmine is the only high school student to be named a Carson Scholar in Ventura County this year.

Carson presented the award to Jasmine at the sixth annual West Coast Carson Scholars Award Banquet in Dana Point. The student received an award medal and a college scholarship.

Jasmine, at the request of the Carson staff, presented the opening prayer at the banquet.

The student’s school received a trophy inscribed with the statement, “The Carson Scholars Fund salutes Newbury Park Adventist Academy and its top students for outstanding academic achievements and humanitarianism.”

Jasmine, a Newbury Park resident, has received numerous academic, athletic and music awards from the school. She is a member of the National Honor Society and also a recipient of the President’s Education Award signed by President Barack Obama.
