Police confirm shots were fired at Hyatt Westlake
Evidence of early morning shooting discovered, sheriff's spokesperson says
Investigators are trying to find the person responsible for firing multiple shots early this morning from the fourth floor of the Hyatt Westlake Plaza, according to Sgt. Eric Buschow, spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
Around 2:30 a.m., police and SWAT responded to multiple 911 calls about shots fired inside the hotel at 880 S. Westlake Blvd.
Police searched the hotel but were not able to find the shooter, who left before police arrived, Buschow said.
There were no injuries.
“There’s clear evidence that shots were fired. There’s no question about that,” said Buschow, who would not comment on what was found. “We’re not going to say how many shots were fired, or where they went.”
Guests on the fourth floor were interviewed, the sergeant said.
“We’re trying to determine what took place, why, and who is responsible,” he said.
The area around the hotel was blocked off until 7 a.m., but guests are now allowed to enter and leave the building.
