Unique grocer opens in Malibu
Store replaces old Trancas Market
Celebrities, elected officials, the Malibu Chamber of Commerce and hundreds of shoppers celebrated a March 5 grand opening of Vintage Grocers with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, demonstrations, free gifts and specials throughout the independent new market created for the Malibu community and the surrounding area.
The luminaries at the grand opening included the mayor, actor Kevin Dillon, City Councilmembers Laura Rosenthal and Lou La Monte, Malibu Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mark Persson and supermodel Cindy Crawford with her husband, entrepreneur Rande Gerber.
The first 250 customers received gift bags filled with Vintage Grocers’ products. Throughout the day, one customer each hour won a Malibu Gift Basket filled with the store’s products.
Shoppers also found special pricing for steaks, produce, wine and other items. The special pricing will continue through March 19 as part of the grand opening celebration.
Eric Fuchser is the market manager of the independent gourmet grocery store custommade to serve Malibu and the surrounding area.
Hundreds of shoppers lined up early. Inside the store, customers found a full selection of organic, all-natural, international, Kosher, GMO-free and gluten-free food and products, as well as environmentally-friendly packaging and products.
Vintage Grocers’ Juice and Coffee Bar staff provided freshsqueezed juices, draft Kombucha, smoothies and Groundworks Coffee to the opening day crowd.
The kitchen staff produced brick oven pizzas, freshly-prepared sushi, homemade soups, salads and other dishes to take home.
Vintage Grocers has hired residents, students and former Malibu grocery store employees.
The store sells a wide variety of hometown products, including scoops of Beachy Cream ice cream and containers of the company’s ice cream.
The produce department is stocked with One Gun Ranch fruits and vegetables grown in a nearby canyon.
The grocery department offers Malibu Olive Company olive oil, spices from Zuma Organic products and organic soaps, skincare and baby prod- ucts from Soap the Earth. Malibu Honey, another store product, is produced from bees in local hives.
Vintage Grocers is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at 30745 PCH, Ste. 24, in the Trancas Country Market across from Zuma Beach, Malibu.
