Car collided with backhoe parked along Potrero Road
Staff reports

Two people are dead following a late-night car crash on Potrero Road southeast of Newbury Park involving an automobile and a piece of construction equipment.

According to the Ventura County Fire Department website, a car travelling on Potrero Road just east of Hidden Valley Road struck a parked backhoe around 11:30 p.m.

Inside the vehicle were four people; none have been identified as of yet.

When ambulances and VCFD units arrived on the scene at 11:38 p.m., they discovered at least one person in the car was already dead. Another died shortly after at the scene.

The two survivors were transported to Los Robles Hospital. They reportedly had minor-to-moderate injuries.

More details expected to be released soon.

In the past 12 months, there have been eight fatal traffic collisions in the City of Thousand Oaks. Speed was a factor in all of them, according to a press release sent out last month by the Thousand Oaks Police Department.
