The Boys & Girls Clubs of Conejo & Las Virgenes and the plastics industries of the American Chemistry Council recently announced the second-prize winner in the recycling competition, the Chapter Challenge.
The Sequoia Boys & Girls Club received $500 for recycling 105 pounds of plastic, aluminum and glass during the second phase of the three-phase competition.
Five Conejo & Las Virgenes Boys & Girls clubs are participating. The clubs have recycled a total of 542 pounds of materials to date.
The program launched last fall is designed to reward youths for recycling. The Sequoia club won the first phase by recycling 126 pounds of plastic, aluminum and glass during the nine-week-long phase.
The final recycling collection period will end May 25. All participating clubs are still in the running for the $3,000 grand prize, which will be awarded to the club that collected the most recyclable materials throughout the three phases.
The Chapter Challenge runs from Sept. 12, 2011 through June 1, 2012.
