Walk to end hunger
Registration for the 34th annual Conejo Valley CROP Hunger Walk will start at noon Sun., March 4 at California Lutheran University’s Lundring Event Center Sports Complex, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks.
About 700 people will participate in either the six- or four- mile walk beginning at 1 p.m.
There will also be a 20-minute campus stroll for seniors, the disabled, parents with young children and those with time constraints.
There is no fee to register.
Of the funds raised by more than 2,000 CROP Walks nationally, 75 percent will support Church World Service, the interfaith relief development and refugee assistance arm of the National Council of Churches.
CROP funds provide tools, education and a new start for struggling communities in the aftermath of floods, earthquakes and famine, and in war- torn areas.
The remaining 25 percent will help Conejo Valley’s Manna food bank, Westlake Meals on Wheels, Thousand Oaks Meals on Wheels and Lutheran Social Services.
Walkers are requested to bring donation envelopes to the registration area.
Last year, the local CROP Walk raised more than $54,000.
For more information and walker envelopes, call CROP Walk coordinator Sherrill at (805) 492-3674.
