Lecture looks at emotional pain

The Conejo Jewish Academy will host a lecture titled “How to Get Over the ‘You Ruined My Life!’ Syndrome” with guest speaker Rabbi Shais Taub at 8 p.m. Mon., Feb. 6 at the academy, 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills.

Taub is a teacher and author know for his scholarship in Chassidic mysticism. He will speak about the spiritual art of healing old emotional pain and letting go of resentments. In the talk he will explain how to say goodbye to toxic feelings and say hello to a life of peace and empowerment.

Experience CLU’s gospel concert

California Lutheran University will present its inaugural gospel concert at 8 p.m. Fri., Feb. 10 in Samuelson Chapel, south of Olsen Road near Campus Drive on the Thousand Oaks campus.

The new CLU Gospel Choir, which formed in September, is one of the acts performing at the “Black History Concert: The Sunday Morning Experience.” The show will feature a variety of soloists, choirs and groups singing both traditional and contemporary gospel music.

V3, an Oxnard- and Los Angeles-based group, will present traditional gospel music. The group’s director, Brandon Binder, also conducts the CLU Gospel Choir.

Other featured performers include William Johnson and the gospel group Purpose.

The concert is free.

Workshops will teach strategies for peace-making

Unity of the Oaks Church invites the community to two workshops that will focus on peacemaking strategies for dealing with conflicts that arise in everyday life from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sat., Feb. 4 and 11 at the church, 1414 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Ste. 113, Thousand Oaks.

The workshops will explore spiritual principles and practices and provide games and tools to help participants move from conflict to cooperation, from separation to community and from resistance to synergy.

Dr. Ed Rockey will lead the workshops. He has presented workshops for major business organizations, including Amgen and Litton.

The co- facilitator will be Bobbi Rudin, a behavior therapist and registered yoga teacher.

Admission is on a sliding scale of $20 to $30 per workshop. Refreshments and materials will be provided.
