Park district seeking input from public on Lang Ranch Park
CRPD offers walking tour of property
The Conejo Recreation and Park District is hosting two events next week to get input from residents interested in recreational amenities in the district’s Planning Zone 2, which covers the northeastern corner of Thousand Oaks.
District parks within Zone 2, which is east of the 23 Freeway and north of Hillcrest Drive, include Old Meadows Park, Conejo Creek parks North and South, Oakbrook Neighborhood Park, Sunset Hills Park and Lang Ranch Neighborhood Park.
The zone also encompasses the 124-acre property bordered by Erbes Road, Avenida de Los Arboles and Westlake Boulevard that is to be the future site of Lang Ranch Community Park, the last community park planned for Thousand Oaks.
Earlier this month, the CRPD board voted unanimously to end its 10-year, $2.5-million effort to build a park full of amenities after a geotechnical study revealed that CRPD would have to spend $10 million to $15 million just to get the hillside property up to stability safety standards.
At the time of its decision, the board pledged to seek input from the public on what should happen next with the property, which was first tabbed for a public park by the city’s founders in the late 1960s.
• A background and brainstorming meeting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wed., Feb. 8 at the Hillcrest Center Community Room, 403. W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.
•On Sat., Feb. 11 district staff will lead an early-morning walking tour of the Lang Ranch Park property. The tour will leave at 7:30 a.m. and return at approximately 9 a.m.
To attend, enter the driveway off Erbes Road just south of Scenic Park Drive (across the street from Los Cerritos Middle School).
Participants are asked to wear comfortable shoes and hiking clothing and be prepared to walk approximately 2.5 miles roundtrip with an estimated elevation gain of 200 feet.
Two more public meetings are planned for Wed., Feb. 29 and Wed., March 21 inside the Hillcrest room. Both meetings will begin at 7 p.m.
