County writers club’s newly elected board includes members from Conejo Valley
The Ventura County Writers Club announced, voted on, approved and installed the new panel of officers for 2012 at the club’s August meeting.
“ The new board of directors will be looking to expand VCWC’s education reach,” said Kate Sexton, newly elected club president. “We want to reach out to younger writers and form workshops or groups that support them outside of school. And we will be adding many resources for members on our website.”
The officers are Kate Sexton, president; Shantea Gauthier of Simi Valley, first vice president and programming; Michele Soto of Thousand Oaks, second vice president and membership; Duncan Smith of Thousand Oaks, recording secretary; Gail Bellenger, corresponding secretary and publicity; and Lee Wade of Newbury Park, past president and acting treasurer.
The nonelected club officers are Barbara Piszczek, technology officer and chair of the Anthology Committee, and Heather Schmidt, social media manager.
Meetings take place at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month except December at the club’s new meeting place, Pleasant Valley Senior Center in Camarillo. The public is welcome to all meetings.
Since its formation in 1933 with four members in Ojai, the club has grown to more than 175 members. Members can attend writers workshops, groups that meet one or more times a month throughout the county to read and critique manuscripts and discuss aspects of the business of writing.
