Club gives out Amelia Earhart award
The Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley Area will host a luncheon in January to honor the Southern California recipient of the Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship award.
The event is from noon to 3 p.m. Sat., Jan. 8 at the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant, 16320 Raymer St., Van Nuys.
Ashley Moore is the recipient of the $5,000 award.
Moore graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2006 with bachelor’s degrees in aerospace engineering sciences and applied mathematics.
After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a master’s degree in aerospace engineering at California Institute of Technology.
She is working on a doctorate in control and dynamical systems, which she plans to finish in spring 2011.
Moore is working to design fuel-efficient spacecraft trajectories that travel from the Earth to the moon using a small amount of fuel.
The Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley Area, founded in 1972, is the local service club of Zonta International, a global service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women worldwide.
