Outlook: During a five-year span from 2003 through 2007, the Oak Park football team averaged more than 10 wins per season.

In the past two years, however, the Eagles have managed only seven wins in 20 contests.

With Oaks Christian having moved from the Tri-Valley League to the Marmonte this season, the TVL title chase is as wide open as it has been in almost a decade, and Oak Park must once again be considered a championship contender.

In this season-opening showdown at Channel Islands, look for the Eagles to get back to doing what they do best—pounding the ball on the ground and playing tough defense.

Agoura (0-0) at

Ventura (0-0)

Outlook: Charlie Wegher’s airit out Agoura squad gets a solid test on the road at Larrabee Stadium.

All eyes will be on Charger quarterback Gerard Poutier, who has a plethora of playmakers at his disposal, including the new kid on the block, sophomore passcatching sensation Kyle London.

In last season’s 12-0 victory over Ventura, Poutier had 11 completions for 79 yards with an interception. Better numbers can be expected this time around.

Agoura’s linebacking corps may develop into one of the Marmonte League’s finest outfits, but the AHS defensive line will be challenged. Agoura’s big guys must hold their ground so the linebackers can make plays.
