Some people still care about others

We must share a heartwarming story.

My friend Sylvia and I are two elderly women, and we were walking from Muvico Theaters to the parking lot.

Sylvia fell off the curb facefirst onto the pavement and had a cut on her forehead; the blood appeared immediately, and she was moaning in pain.

I thought, “I can’t move her. I don’t know what, if anything, could be broken.”

I barely had time for this thought when four young men appeared. One was already on his cellphone calling 911; one ripped off his T-shirt, wadded it up and told Sylvia to place it on her head wound and apply pressure. One ran off to Muvico and came back with a bag of ice; the other gently moved her to a sitting position on the curb.

The paramedics were there in minutes and of course were wonderful. Everything happened so fast that we never got the names and telephone numbers of the “angels.”

We thanked them, of course, but it’s not enough.

We hope they’re reading this letter and appreciating how thankful we are to them.

The happy ending of the tale is that Sylvia is bruised but fine, and we both have renewed faith in the human race. Carol Shycoff and Sylvia Schwartz Thousand Oaks
