‘Conejo through the Lens’ community photo project needs residents’ family photos

A photo scanning day, which is taking place as part of the Community Photo Project: Conejo through the Lens, will start at 4 p.m. Fri., Sept. 10 at the Goebel Senior Adult Center, 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

The purpose of the event is to preserve the pictorial development of the Conejo Valley for future generations. Residents can bring in family photographs depicting life in the Conejo Valley, including landscapes, historical events, school programs and family life.

The photos, which will be scanned and returned to the owner, will be included in a Web-based archive that will provide Internet access to images and papers documenting the history, growth and culture of the area from its early settlement to present.

Photos already included in the digital archive can be viewed at www.flickr.com/photos/ conejovalley.

Donated photos should be family photographs of Conejo Valley subjects belonging to the donors or handed down by family members or photos by professional photographers submitting their own work. Copyrighted images may be submitted only if the donor owns the copyright and is willing to grant unlimited use of the image.

The program was initiated by the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation.

For more information, call the library’s Special Collections, (805) 499-2660, ext. 228.
