Pearl Harbor commemoration seeks musicians

Composer and music arranger Ed Lojeski and Los Angeles area conductors Bill Benson (orchestra) and Donna Young (youth choirs) are collaborating to produce a music festival in Honolulu, Hawaii, from June 30 through July 5, 2011, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

The festival will accept applications through late October from youth and adult choirs and orchestras interested in performing.

The festival, titled “A Salute to Valor,” will feature performances at the Waikiki Shell outdoor amphitheater and will culminate on the evening of July 4 with a concert and fireworks on the deck of the USS Missouri, where the documents of surrender were signed to end World War II.

The festival’s website, www.salutetovalor.com, has information for choral directors, musicians and singers interested in participating in the festival.

The youth talent for the event will be under the supervision of Young, director of the Los Robles Children’s Choir. Young will incorporate youth and treble choirs into a combined ensemble.

The singers will be accompanied by a 50-piece professionalquality orchestra.
