Hazardous waste appointments can be made online
Thousand Oaks residents can now schedule appointments for the Household Hazardous Waste Program through a new online system.
To make an appointment, residents can log onto the city’s environmental page at www .toaks.org/GoGreen, and click on a registration button in the Household Hazardous Waste Section. They then choose a time and a confirmation is immediately sent to their e-mail indicating the directions, appointment time and event date. A reminder message is also sent by e-mail to participants just before the event.
The Household Hazardous Waste Program is open once a month and limited to Thousand Oaks and unincorporated Ventura County residents. The next program is scheduled for Sat., Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. There is a transportation limit for materials of 15 gallons or 125 pounds at one time in a vehicle.
Residents without Internet access can call the environmental hotline at (805) 449-SAVE (7283) to make an appointment. This is also the number to schedule free and subsidized small business hazardous waste collection appointments.
The program accepts materials leftover from paint, hardware, automotive and gardening projects. Chemicals and products in good usable condition are made available to the public for free at the Material Reuse table.
