AAUW hosts fall breakfast

The Thousand Oaks Branch of AAUW (formerly known as American Association of University Women) will host the annual fall breakfast at 8 a.m. Sat., Sept. 11 at the Los Robles Greens Banquet Center, 299 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. All interested women are invited.

The event will begin with registration, a display of special interest tables and opportunities to sign up for the organization’s affinity groups, such as photography, day and evening literature groups and political shindigs. The breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m.

Guest speaker Rose Hayden- Smith, Ventura County director of the UC Cooperative Extension, will address the growing popularity of the local food movement and how women are leading the way to better nutrition by encouraging more school and home gardens.

The theme of this year’s breakfast is “Nourish to Flourish.”

Tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance. Each ticket includes the breakfast buffet and a $5 donation toward Tech Trek scholarships, a science and technology camp for young girls taking place each year at UC Santa Barbara.

Those attending are urged to bring new school supplies, which will be donated to Many Mansions for use in its transitional program for homeless families.
