Americans are worst-dressed tourists
More than 47 percent of 1,000 people from 70 countries who responded to an online survey said that Americans are the world’s worst-dressed tourists.
American women who are planning a late summer vacation still have time to make a good impression on their fellow travelers. Here are some simple fashion rules to help travelers pack some style into their vacation wardrobes:
•Leggings are not pants. Pack darker leggings in a better quality. Cover leggings with a lightweight tunic or longer shirt that falls below the buttocks. Don’t treat leggings like pants.
•Never pair sneakers with a summer dress. Anchoring a breezy look with clunky shoes or sneakers is a fashion faux-pas.
Pair “flowery” dresses with comfortable, open-toed sandals. Pick a print that blends in, not stands out. Style and arch support do coexist.
•Leave fanny packs with hiking gear. Wrapping a fanny pack around the waist highlights an area most women don’t want to draw attention to. Dressing for one’s body type is the key for all occasions.
Start with a long white skirt that flatters the figure, then pair it with neutrals to blend in, not stand out. Opt for simple flat sandals that are as comfy as sneakers. Choose a small shoulder bag to carry belongings. Don’t dress in loud prints or other attentiongrabbing clothes.
•Don’t let summer breezes blow style away. Take along a crop cardigan or shrug that blends with the colors of the outfit. Top with a slim black belt fastened at the waist for a more flattering silhouette. Don’t cover up a stylish summer look with an out-of-date poncho or out-of-season sweater.
•Leave that favorite pair of holey jeans at home. Pair cuffed “boyfriend” jeans with a soft top. Complete the look with a detailed sandal and classic tops.
