Rotary Club stuffs backpacks
A major annual project for the Rotary Club of Westlake Village is donating to disadvantaged children backpacks stuffed with more than 25 items appropriate for each grade level.
About 70 backpacks will be stuffed at 1 p.m. Wed., Aug. 25 at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County select the children who will receive the backpacks. The recipients are in foster and group homes, the children of prisoners, on welfare or from military families.
The Rotarians spend between $1,000 and $1,500 for school supplies. Club members donate new backpacks. Members of Big Brothers Big Sisters help stuff the packs and deliver the packs to the children.
The Rotary clubs of Newbury Park and the Conejo Valley also participate in the project.
Rotary team members for the project are Gloria Rocca, Margaret Tobin True, and Dapper Spar.
