SPREADING THE WORD TO NEW CHRISTIANS—A family is prepared for baptism by missionaries Frank and Karma Turner. Frank and Karma Turner of Newbury Park have recently returned home after serving an 18- month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

They were trained for service at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, before traveling to their mission in Ghana, Africa.

Karma Turner taught keyboard lessons to children from batterypowered keyboards, which were donated from a private foundation in Provo.

“The children would attend school from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., return home to do homework and still find time to practice the keyboard” Karma Turner said.

Some of the couple’s time was also spent teaching English and developing lifelong friendships. Frank Turner said, “Leaving our families here in the United States was difficult but it was just as difficult saying goodbye to the people of Ghana that we had grown to love.”

The Turners’ future plans are to travel and visit family, and then Frank Turner will teach music appreciation via the Internet.
