Two-day Tropical Daze festival coming to T.O.
FUN EVENT–The second annual Tropical Daze Summer Music Festival is coming July 24 and 25 to Thousand Oaks Community Park, 2525 N. Moorpark Road, just north of Thousand Oaks High School. It will feature Caribbean, reggae, surf and island music.
Caribbean, reggae, surf and island music and entertainment will be presented at the second annual Tropical Daze Summer Music Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat. and Sun., July 24 and 25 at the Thousand Oaks Community Park, 2525 Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.
The two-day festival features children’s activity areas, arts and crafts, island-themed vendor booths and tropical food. Admission is free.
A number of nonprofit groups will participate at the festival. Conejo Valley Neighborhood for Learning will provide games for preschoolers. A portion of the proceeds from Tropical Daze will benefit this organization, a local chapter of First 5 Ventura County.
EARTHS Magnet School in Newbury Park will host 10 free science experiment stations. Each station will contain a separate experiment designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Exotic birds, including macaws, cockatoos, parakeets, Kookaburras, cockatiels, soft bills and peacocks will be on display.
Following is the line-up of performers.
Sat., July 24. 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Island Rhythms Production (steel drum band).
12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Masanga Marimba.
4 to 5:30 p.m. Stowaway.
Sun., July 25. 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Unkle Monkey.
12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Hula Dawgs.
1:45 to 2:15 p.m. Yoki Daiko (taiko drums)
2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Island Rhythms Production
4:30 to 6 p.m. Urban Dread. An authentic luau buffet and live one-hour show presented by Na Hoaloha o Polynesia will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Sat., July 24. The buffet dinner includes Hawaiian chicken and beef teriyaki. The entertainment will include Hawaiian music, hula dancers, drummers and a fire-knife dancer.
Half the proceeds from the luau will go to the Miller YMCA.
Tickets for the luau are $21 per person; children under age 5 are $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www .tropicaldaze.org.
