Shiver me timbers, pirates invade Ventura Harbor Village

Pirates will invade Ventura Harbor Village from 1 to 4 p.m. Sat. and Sun., July 17 and 18 for the fifth annual Pirate Days on Spinnaker Drive off of Harbor Boulevard, Ventura.

Pirate Days offers family entertainment and the chance to meet pirate look-alikes Capt. Jack Sparrow, Capt. Hook, Davy Jones and Elizabeth Swann.

The children’s treasure hunt for ages 1 to 12 is $2.

Participants in the daily pirate costume contests can compete for a chance to win tickets to Disneyland. Separate costume contests are for children 7 years and younger, 8 to 15 years and adults 16 and up. Times are 2:30 p.m. for children and 3:30 p.m. for adults.

The newly added pet pirate costume contest will be at 3 p.m. Saturday only.

The Pirate’s Cove on Ventura Harbor Village’s main lawn will feature pirate gear and costumes for sale, henna tattoos, pony rides, inflatables, strolling pirate musicians, exotic birds and face painting.

Belly dancers will perform outside of The Greek at the Harbor restaurant. Live action shows featuring pirate magicians, Talk Like a Pirate Show and swordplay will take place on two stages.

Participating Village shops and restaurants will have free pirate booty and pirate menus. Ventura Boat Rentals will offer “Arrgh-bor Tours” departing every hour from noon to 4 p.m. daily.

The Village Carousel will have gold cotton candy. Children in costume will get a free eye patch.

The Greek at the Harbor will serve a pirate pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday for $5. Silhouette’s Salon will offer pirate braids with beads on Saturday only. Harbor Village Gallery will have free kids’ pirate creations on Sunday only from noon to 2 p.m.

The new Pirate Boot Camp for children ages 7 to 12 will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Fri., July 16 at Ventura Harbor Village. The cost is $25 and includes pirate gear, buried treasure, sea shanties and pirate history.

Adults age 21 and older can take part in the Pre-Pirate’s Days Pub Crawl Fri., July 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. The event includes appetizers from three restaurants, a professional photo with the pirates, rum samplings, drink specials and sea shanties on the beach. The cost is $20. Adults in costume will receive a free gift.
