Master Chorale announces 2010-2011 season

Los Robles Master Chorale artistic director Lesley Leighton recently announced the chorale’s 2010-11 season. Six concert programs will feature an array of choral music, traditional holiday fare, and the music of composer John Rutter.

The season begins Sun., Nov. 14 and 21 with performances by the Consort Singers, the chorale’s 30-voice chamber ensemble. “Introspection” will include sacred and secular music ranging from Georg Philip Telemann and Michael Haydn to English folk song arrangements and American spirituals.

The holiday season will have two concerts. “Holiday Treasures,” a family-friendly performance at 2 p.m. Sun., Dec. 12, will present seasonal favorites by Mendelssohn, Rutter, Roger Wagner and Irving Berlin as well as audience singalongs of popular carols.

The chorale will perform “Holiday Presence” at 8 p.m. Sat., Dec. 18 with separate performances by the women and men of the chorale as well as combined performances on RenĂ© Clausen’s “Magnificat,” Vaughan Williams’s “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” and the premiere of a new piece by John Rutter, jointly commissioned by Los Robles Master Chorale through a partnership with Chorus America.

In the spring, the chorale will host a joint concert with the Los Robles Children’s Choir, under the direction of Leighton and the children’s choir’s artistic director Donna Young, at 4 p.m. Sun., March 20. “Eternal Love” will feature John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children” and the world premiere of “Five Texts” by Hans Christian Andersen, composed by Leighton.

Consort Singers will perform “Loss and Love,” a range of music by ancient and contemporary composers, on Sun., April 17 and May 1.

The full chorale will close the season at 8 p.m. Sat., May 7 with “Reminiscence,” a concert featuring John Rutter’s “Requiem” and choral works by J.S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Rameau, Orlando di Lasso, Howard Hanson, Paul Liljestrand, Roger Quilter, Knut Nystedt, Franz Biebl and Randall Thompson.

The master chorale will also perform at the Hollywood Bowl Easter Sunrise Service and community outreach concerts at University Village in Thousand Oaks.
