A free electronic waste event is coming Saturday to a local grocery store
In a cooperative effort by Whole Foods Market and EWaste Fundraising, a free electronic waste collection event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., July 17 in the Whole Foods Market parking lot, 740 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.
The event will benefit Louisiana State University’s Wildlife Hospital, a nonprofit entity. The hospital has been caring for the sick, injured and starving animals rescued from the Gulf oil spill.
During the event, residents can drop off broken or outdated electronic items such as computers, TVs, monitors, laptops, cellphones and any technology that can be plugged in or runs on batteries.
Large appliances, such as dishwashers, washing machines, microwaves and refrigerators, will not be accepted.
After collection, the electronic waste is sorted, weighed, and paid for by a California-authorized recycling facility. Sixty percent of all proceeds generated by the event will go to the wildlife hospital. The remaining amount will be used to cover operating costs associated with the event.
E-Waste Fundraising is a Thousand Oaks-based company dedicated to raising funds for worthy causes through electronic waste collection events. For more information, visit www.ewastefundraising. org.
