Amateur salsa chefs are invited to enter their own concoctions in the 2010 Great Oxnard Salsa Challenge Amateur Recipe Contest on Sun., July 25 at the Oxnard Salsa Festival in downtown Oxnard.

Preregistration by July 9 is required for all contestants.

Winning salsas will be selected in several categories, including Best Red, Best Green, Best Fruit, Best Mild, Best Medium and Best Hot.

An overall winner, judge’s pick for “Best of the Best,” will be awarded a $150 cash prize.

The entry fee is $25 per salsa and includes one souvenir Tshirt per contestant.

The Oxnard Salsa Festival will take place July 24 and 25 at Plaza Park, Fifth and B streets.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. Admission and parking are free.
