Lutheran Church to present the musical ‘Godspell’

Mount Cross Lutheran Church will present the musical “Godspell” July 7 to 10 at the church, 102 Camino Esplendido, Camarillo.

Shows will be at 7 p.m. each night, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sat., July 10.

Based primarily on the Gospel of Matthew, the show features music by Stephen Schwartz (“Pippin,” “Wicked”), including the international hit “Day By Day.” The show opened in 1971 off-Broadway and transferred to Broadway in 1976 for more than 2,600 performances.

“Godspell” gives the audience a chance to see the parables of Jesus Christ come to life in a new way. The show also presents the story of Jesus’ last moments on Earth, beginning with the Last Supper.

The cast includes students and recent graduates from Rio Mesa, Moorpark and Newbury Park high schools as the ensemble/ disciples.

The show is produced and directed by Noah Skultety, who recently appeared in the Camarillo Community Theatre production of “Oklahoma!” and directed the Rio Mesa High School production of “Grease.” Skultety will also play the role of Jesus.

The suggested donation is $7 for children, congregation members, students, military and seniors. General admission is $10. Tickets will be sold at the door.

The production is in memory of Kayla Gucciardo, 13, whose family is part of the church.
