Fire department accepts old flags
Fire chiefs from all of the county’s fire departments have agreed to use their stations as public drop-off points for worn American flags. Flags collected at the stations will be given to the American Veterans Flagpole and Flag Co., which will retire them properly in ceremonies held several times a year at the Veterans Home of California Ventura location.
Residents will be able to drop off their worn flags at more than 45 fire stations throughout the county. Firefighters will accept the flags during normal business hours, duties permitting. Flags will also be accepted at the Ventura County Fire Administration building on Durley Avenue at the Camarillo Airport.
The flag retirement ceremonies are open to the public. For information on upcoming ceremonies, call (805) 647-FLAG (3524) or go to www.AmericanVetFlagpoles.com.
