Businesses are closed for health reasons

By Nancy Needham

Two Thousand Oaks eateries were closed recently for health violations.

Sunset Terrace Restaurant and Lounge in the Janss Marketplace was closed June 15 due to “serious and repeated violations,” according to a Ventura County health report. It reopened, however, the next day.

The bar area of Fins Seafood on Westlake Boulevard was closed May 25 and hasn’t reopened as of June 23.

The health report cited an unapproved remodel and no hand washing facilities as the reasons for the closing.

Among other Thousand Oaks restaurants that were found to have health violations after being inspected near the end of last month were Stonefire Grill, Chang 101 and Denny’s.

On May 24, Stonefire Grill on T.O. Boulevard was found to have food that wasn’t kept at the correct temperature.

On the same day at Chang 101 on Avenida de Los Arboles, inspectors found several violations, including cross contamination of raw meat with other foods, improper storage of utensils and food, not having “no smoking” or hand-washing signs posted, and inadequate maintenance of the site for pest control.

On May 20, Denny’s on Thousand Oaks Boulevard didn’t have a notice posted advising patrons that its most recent inspection report was available.

In addition, the restaurant was cited for inadequate equipment maintenance and utensil storage.

Environmental health inspectors in Ventura County regularly make unannounced visits to food-service facilities throughout the county. Their reports are available at www.ventura.org/ rma/envhealth.
