T.O. man arrested on allegation that he raped Moorpark High School girl, 15

Christopher Atkinson Christopher Atkinson Police have arrested a Moorpark High School employee for allegedly giving a teenage student alcohol to drink and then sexually assaulting her.

Christopher Atkinson, 23, was arrested in front of his apartment building at 799 St. Charles Drive, Thousand Oaks, at 9 a.m. June 1 and charged with three sexual assault felonies and one misdemeanor.

Police say Atkinson met the 15-year-old girl at Moorpark High School, where she’s a student and he had been working since last year as a campus supervisor and a baseball coach. Police allege he communicated with her away from school using the social networking Internet site MySpace before bringing her to his Thousand Oaks home on May 26.

Atkinson was arrested and booked for felony rape by use of drugs, felony oral copulation by anesthesia or controlled substance, felony unlawful sexual intercourse and the misdemeanor of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

His bail was set at $100,000.

According to Ventura County Superior Court records, Atkinson had no previous criminal record, not even a speeding ticket.

Moorpark Unified School District Superintendent Ellen Smith said she’s not allowed to discuss specifics about the case, but all school employees are required to be fingerprinted and screened for criminal records by the California Department of Justice before working for the district.

In addition, the district’s personnel department conducts a background check to verify past employment records, work habits and job history of those who are considered for work in the district.

“In a situation in which there is a police investigation, the district works cooperatively with the authorities to get all the facts of the case, to allow each agency to proceed with the appropriate course of action,” Smith said.

According to the district’s public records, Atkinson began as campus supervisor in October 2009 and assistant junior varsity baseball coach in December 2009.
