Music festival to celebrate summer
The second annual Tropical Daze Summer Music Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat. and Sun., July 24 and 25 at Thousand Oaks Community Park, 2525 Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. The event is a fundraiser for local nonprofits.
The featured bands include Urban Dread, Masanga Marimba, Yoki Daiko (Japanese taiko drums) and Island Rhythms Production (Trinidad steel drum band).
An area for preschoolers will be set aside with bubbles, games and crafts.
An authentic luau buffet and live show presented by Na Hoaloha o Polynesia will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. The cost for the luau is $21 in advance.
Conejo Valley Neighborhood for Learning will receive 25 percent of the event proceeds. Many Mansions will receive 50 percent of beverage sales. Conejo Valley YMCA will keep all of its sales proceeds from a food booth. Ascension Lutheran Church will get a $1,000 donation for helping set up. Miller Family YMCA gets 50 percent of the luau proceeds.
The Thousand Oaks Kiwanis Club and Conejo Valley YMCA will set up booths in the food court. Many Mansions will provide volunteers to help sell beverages, and Newbury Park Rotary’s Interact Kids will help with event staffing. The Conejo Valley Chapter of the National Charity League will greet attendees, hand out leis and staff booths.
The Ventura County Sheriff Explorers from the East County Sheriff’s Station will direct traffic during both days and will also provide DART volunteers for the firstaid booth.
