Westlake’s Krems selected for elite tennis tourney

Westlake High freshman Sivan Krems has been chosen to represent Southern California at the 36th annual Maze Cup on June 4-6 at the Berkeley Tennis Club in Berkeley.

Krems, who turns 15 on June 5, is ranked 20th in the nation and third in SoCal for girls 16 and under by the United States Tennis Association.

Ten players were picked for the SoCal squad, with Krems being the youngest of the bunch.

The Maze Cup is a team match competition between the Southern California Tennis Association and the USTA Northern California Section. A Davis Cup format—two singles and one doubles—will be used for boys and girls in the 16- and 18-and-under divisions.

Former Maze Cup participants include Camarillo’s Bob and Mike Bryan, Michael Chang, Pete Sampras and Lindsay Davenport.
