Temple celebrates 50 years, rabbi has served for 10

Rabbi Richard Spiegel Rabbi Richard Spiegel Temple Etz Chaim, which is observing 50 years serving the Jewish community in the Conejo Valley, will celebrate Rabbi Richard Spiegel’s 10th anniversary as its spiritual leader with a special Shabbat service and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Fri., June 11 at the temple, 1080 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

The celebration will have a special dinner, songs led by Cantor Duek, children’s participation and presentation, invited speakers recounting highlights of Spiegel’s tenure and a Friday night service dedicated to the rabbi.

A native of the Washington, D.C., area, Spiegel joined Temple Etz Chaim in August 2000 after serving congregations in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Texas.

He has been an active participant and leader in the Rabbinical Assembly, the international body of Conservative Rabbis. He recently served as president of the Pacific Southwest Region of the Rabbinical Assembly and is on the board of Jewish World Watch.
