On May 2 individuals who hope to run for any of the three City Council seats up for reelection in November can legally start receiving campaign contributions.

The seats now occupied by council members Claudia Bill-de la Peña, Andy Fox and Dennis Gillette will be on the ballot.

So far none of the incumbents have announced whether they will run for the seats they now occupy. They don’t have to say until the filing of papers, which opens July 12, closes on Aug. 6.

After Aug. 6, if an incumbent isn’t running, the deadline for filing to run will be extended to Aug. 11, said City Clerk Linda Lawrence.

If an extension is enacted, an incumbent cannot change his or her mind and then decide to run, Lawrence said.
