Simi Landfill marks second anniversary

The Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center will commemorate the second anniversary of its Construction and Demolition Recycling Facility, which has recycled more than 81,800 tons of materials since its opening.

In Ventura County, local laws require construction projects to divert a minimum of 60 percent of their waste. The Simi Valley center exceeds that goal by recycling 88 percent of the materials received.

The center accepts wood, concrete, dirt, drywall, metal, cardboard, plastic, roofing materials, appliances and tile. These materials are sorted on site and transported to regional facilities for use in new products.

Waste Management’s facility is at 2801 Madera Road, north of the 118 Freeway. The facility accepts co-mingled construction waste from the public as well as private contractors.
