Having fun with April Fools’ Day
Readers will find a phony story on page 1 because it’s April Fools’ Day. There’s another one, too, somewhere else.
We’re not the Los Angeles Times . We actually have a sense of humor. We hope you enjoy the story as much as we did “covering” it.
You don’t have to be the sharpest tool in the shed to spot the just-for-fun story. If, however, you totally accepted it at face value, you undoubtedly need a sense-of-humor checkup.
According to the Internet, the origin of April Fools’ Day is open to conjecture, but it’s been around for centuries.
As a weekly newspaper, we can only have fun with April 1 when it falls on a Thursday, which doesn’t happen often. The last time was 2004, when Martians landed at the Civic Arts Plaza and the city of Calabasas approved a huge amusement park called Carneyland.
Here are a few headlines that might be covered in future April Fools’ Day editions:
Faulty oak collapses, crushes tree huggers who were trying to save it.
Citizen complaints diminish at council meetings, council members miss the old days of contentiousness.
Low-cost housing exceeds demand.

Republicans and Democrats merge into one party after finding nothing to disagree on.

We hope you’re having (or had) a great April Fools’ Day!
