Viewpoint students place

Eight Viewpoint middle schoolers recently competed against 144 students from 14 schools across the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys in the regional MathCounts competition at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
MathCounts is the premier middle school math competition in the country.
Eighth-grader Andrew Vlahos of Thousand Oaks came in fourth place out of 144 students and qualified for the state finals of MathCounts, which will be March 27 at UC Irvine. Eighthgrader Bradley Emi of Westlake Village came in fifth place.
Other members of the Viewpoint team are sixth-graders Aaron Beckman of Thousand Oaks, Sarah Evans of Calabasas and Andrew Schoenberger of Malibu, and eighth-graders Christine Jarjour of Oak Place, Ricky Ploumpis of Topanga and Ali Visher of Malibu. Viewpoint math teachers and Mathcounts coaches Alan Meyer and Pat Giuffrida began preparing the students for the competition in September. In January, they narrowed the number of students from 23 to eight and increased the coaching time to twice a week.
Viewpoint School in Calabasas is a nondenominational, coeducational private school of 1,200 students, K-12.
