If you believe in property rights, vote for Strickland
I was an attendee at the March 2 Ventura County Supervisors meeting. The meeting room was fairly full. Those who chose to speak filled out forms with their names, addresses and whether they were pro or con on the issue at hand.
The issue was item 22 on the agenda and the subject was new regulations on the use of open space.
Here’s just a little background information on open space. Nearly 50 percent of designated open space is private property. It was private property before there was a Ventura County open space policy.
Now the owners of that property can’t always use it for what it was originally zoned for— even though they still have to pay property taxes on it.
At the Tuesday meeting, about two-thirds of those requesting to speak at the meeting were against more limitations on the use of “open space” property.
Ignoring that fact, the new regulations were voted for, not against–new regulations by a 4-1 vote by the Ventura County Supervisors.
Supervisor Foy was the only one voting against new, intrusive regulations.
We’re approaching the time to vote for the 2nd District county supervisor. It’s currently held by Linda Parks.
I strongly encourage a vote for her opponent. As a voter in the 2nd district, I will.
