Federalist Society will host a forum

The public is invited to attend a forum sponsored by the Gold Coast Chapter of The Federalist Society titled “The Citizens United Case and Campaign Finance: A Victory for Free Speech or Threat to Democracy?” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mon., March 22 at California Lutheran University’s Lundring Events Center, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. The program is free.

The forum will feature a panel discussion with four scholars: Michael Toner, partner and chair of Election Law and Government Ethics Practice Group at Bryan Cave in Washington, D.C., and former chair of the Federal Election Commission; Barry McDonald, Pepperdine University School of Law professor; Mark Scarberry, Pepperdine University School of Law professor; and Adam Winkler, UCLA School of Law professor.

Retired Ventura County Superior Court Judge Steven Hintz will moderate the event.

Forum participants will discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision, the soundness of its reasoning and its implications.

The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a nonpartisan organization founded on the principles of freedom and separation of governmental powers.
