Fox disappointed that residents weren’t notified about tree law

Old neighborhoods were uninformed

The city’s neglect in notifying some of those who might be interested in a new oak tree ordinance had Councilmember Andrew Fox scratching his head.

Conejo Oaks, one of the oldest subdivisions in Thousand Oaks, wasn’t alerted that a new ordinance would be discussed on Feb. 23 at the City Council meeting.

“Conejo Oaks has (one of the city’s largest population of oak trees) on private property, and we didn’t even mail to them?” Fox said.

No, the city didn’t send a single Conejo Oaks resident a postcard or an e-mail.

City officials did mail 110 homeowners associations, businesses and management companies, expecting those organizations to pass the word on to those they represent.

Conejo Oaks doesn’t have a homeowners association, a city official said.
