Fillmore & Western Railway offers family excursions

All aboard for murder mystery, scenic, fun rides

The Fillmore & Western Railway presents a variety of train rides in March.

All rides depart from the station at 351 Santa Clara St., Fillmore, rain or shine. Reservations are required by calling (805) 524-2546. For more information, go to www.fwry.com.

•March 6, 13 and 20, Saturday Scenic Excursions Train Rides. 3.5 hour round trip with one-hour layover in downtown Santa Paula, 45-minute stop at Loose Caboose Garden Center and Gift Emporium. Lunch in diner available for additional cost. Depart Fillmore at noon, return approximately 3:30 p.m. Adults $24; seniors $22; youths 4 to 12, $14; infant to age 3, $10. Oneway cab rides, $50.

•March 6, Murder Mystery Luncheon Train Ride. Comedy murder mystery performed by the P. Maxwell Production troupe. Orange blossom chicken threecourse lunch. Stop at Loose Caboose Garden Center during intermission. Adults $61; youths 6 to 13, $32.

•March 13, Night Train to Murder Dinner Train. 1930s Hollywood-themed comedy murder mystery show by P. Maxwell Productions troupe. Dinner of prime rib or chicken cordon bleu. Departs 6:30 p.m., returns 9:30 p.m. $89.

•March 20, The Wine Express. Wine tastings presented by Oxnard’s Herzog Wine Cellars, dancing, hors d’oeuvres buffet, dessert bar.

•March 27, For a Few Dollar$ Le$$ Family Murder Mystery Dinner Train. Spaghetti western family-style murder mystery. 2.5hour event includes spaghetti and meatballs, garden salad, garlic bread, coffee, tea, chef’s special dessert. Adults $61; youths 13 and under, $32.

•March 27 and 28, RailFest 2010. The Santa Clara River Valley Railroad Historical Society sponsors the festivities in cooperation with Fillmore & Western. Free admission includes the railroad visitor center, model train displays, arts and food vendors, frontier gunfighters, static display of a Metrolink train and railroad turntable demonstrations. The Fillmore Historical Museum will give tours of the Sespe Bunkhouse, the historic restored depot and the Hinckley House.

Two-hour train rides to Santa Paula depart at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Adults $24; seniors $22; youths 4 to 12, $14; children age 2 to 3, $10.
