Drivers should respect ‘No right turn on red’ signs

Where the 101 Freeway north exits at Moorpark Road, I’m the one you probably have honked at while you wait in the right lane for me to turn right onto Moorpark Road.

Even though I have come to a complete stop, my car sits here waiting for the green right-turn arrow, while I listen to the honking.

There is a “No Turn on Red” sign that’s very hard to see, way across the street. I’m always tempted to ignore the sign and turn right on red, the way everyone else does.

I’ve never seen anyone get a ticket for turning right on a red light after making a complete stop at this location; and now that I think about it, I’ve never even seen a police officer hanging out on Moorpark Road, waiting to catch someone in the act.

I’ve always felt that this would make a great moneymaker for our city if the police plant themselves somewhere near that exit on Moorpark Road, even for 15 minutes.

I suggest that, 1. somebody add several “Do Not Turn Right on Red” signs to make this message much more visible and enforce it or, 2. remove the sign and legally allow what seems to be a harmless policy.
