Pentagon leak subject of film at church

The Academy Award-nominated documentary film “The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers” will be presented at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Community Forum at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 19 at the fellowship, 3327 Old Conejo Road in the Songbird Office Park, Newbury Park. A discussion will follow the screening.

The film, produced and directed by Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Feature Length Documentary category.

The film, much of it narrated by Ellsberg himself, tells the story of the former Pentagon official who leaked a top secret history of the Vietnam War to the New York Times and other newspapers while he was employed at the RAND Corp. think tank.

The film shows how Ellsberg’s leak of the Pentagon papers exposed years of government lies about America’s intentions in Vietnam and its prospects of victory.

Ellsberg, a one-time hawk who became a dove as he worked on the war effort, risked imprisonment to follow his conscience.

Secretary of State Henry Kissinger at the time called Ellsberg “the most dangerous man in America.”

There is a suggested donation of $5, but no one will be turned away due to a lack of funds.
