Floral art on display at library

2010-02-04 / Dining & Entertainment

The Sogetsu San Fernando Valley Branch will present Balance in Nature, an exhibit of Japanese flower arranging from 1 to 4 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Feb. 6 and 7 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road.

The exhibit will showcase Sogetsu ikebana as a contemporary art form.

Arrangements will range from minimal, graceful floral arrangements to large, living sculptures which use plant materials.

The Japanese art of ikebana is an art form with more than five centuries of history. The Sogetsu School of Ikebana, a progressive avant-garde school in Japan, embraces the modern aesthetic while respecting the Japanese sensitivity to the beauty of nature.

The Sogetsu San Fernando Branch has 60 members. The branch, under the direction of Camille Van Ast of Newbury Park, is associated with the Sogetsu Teachers Association of Japan.
