Trained volunteers to offer tax preparation for seniors

Trained and certified volunteers from the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will provide free income tax preparation from Feb. 3 through April 9 for seniors ages 60 and older or for anyone with an income of $50,000 or less regardless of age.

The service will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays at Goebel Senior Adult Center, 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

Appointments are not needed and service is first come, first served.

Participants need to bring the following items: photo ID, Social Security card, Social Security benefits statement, wage and earning statements, property tax bill, amount of relief in 2009 Economic Stimulus Payment, interest and dividend statements, cost of stocks and bonds and date bought and sold, copy of last year’s federal and state return, bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit and other relevant information about income and expenses.

Participants are not to bring rental or profit or loss from business statements.
